Rest into the quiet wisdom of Yin Yoga and the natural beauty of the Douro during a week of training and retreat at the Source. Over seven days, you’ll dive deeply into Yin Yoga’s Daoist roots, explore the science of fascia, unpack the elements and emotions of the meridian system, and learn how to teach Yin Yoga with confidence and clarity.
As each day unfolds, we'll add a new layer of knowledge and depth to your understanding of yin, from the basic origins and intentions of practice to the subtle skills of holding space. Throughout the week, you'll explore long luxurious yin classes and other complementary practices, alongside in-depth lectures and practical hands-on training, giving you the tools to create thoughtful sequences, hold safe space, and confidently lead classes.
You'll also enjoy contemplative pauses to breathe and be between the vines of the Douro Valley. As a blend of training and retreat, our program offers not only the structure of a comprehensive course but also a chance to recharge in a retreat setting, far from the rush of daily life. Whether you’re expanding your teaching repertoire or deepening your personal practice, this unique week will guide you deeper into the gentle power of Yin Yoga.
Your yin yoga journey starts here...

About Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga invites us to slow down and soften into the present moment through longer-held passive stretches (generally 3 - 5 minutes). As a convergence of traditional Hatha Yoga & principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Yin creates space to gently process and release our physical and emotional layers of tension.
Informed by modern science and ancient meridian theories, Yin Yoga can benefit tissues in your body often ignored by other styles of yoga and movement. Complementing more active approaches to yoga, this patient and passive practice focuses on our fascial networks, helping to reduce constriction and adhesions in the inner fabric of our bodies. Anatomically, Yin Yoga also takes into account individual bone structure variation. Through observing our own unique sites and sensations of tension and compression, Yin encourages us to be adaptable in our approach to each posture.
Our poses can also explore how dense patterns of fascia overlay the traditional tracings of subtle energy systems. Beyond our physical experience, Yin Yoga is informed by the Chinese five-element theory and the meridian lines (of acupuncture), utilizing long-held postures to stimulate specific energetic lines. Each meridian has unique correspondences with elements, organs, seasons, and emotions, etc, adding another layer of depth to our practice.
Lastly, Yin Yoga is also a mindfulness practice. As we rest and reflect in each pose, we sit with all the thoughts and sensations in the present moment, letting go of attachment and aversion. In the pace and pressures of the modern world, Yin Yoga lets us slow down and find sanctuary in the stillness of the pose.
Unfortunately, Yin Yoga is often mistaken as merely "slow yoga" and is sometimes taught by instructors without formal training. By learning about the deeper intentions and origins of Yin Yoga, we can expand and share the benefits of this practice with our communities.

About The Yin Yoga Teacher Training
In our immersive trainings, we’ll take a deep dive into yin philosophy, variable anatomy, fascial health and the meridian system so that you can learn how to sequence and theme meaningful yin yoga classes that fully support your students (and yourself) to slow down, release tension, and create space.
During our one-week training, we’ll explore the theory, science, and anatomy of Yin Yoga, balanced with experiential and energetic aspects of each asana. We'll unpack contemporary research on fascia, a sustainable approach to stretching, and an individualistic perspective of the body. You'll also learn about the foundational principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the five-element theory, and how to weave and work with the meridian lines in your yin practice and teaching.
In our asana analysis, you'll explore an adaptable approach to instructing, propping, and adapting classical and creative yin poses. Not only will you learn different strategies for guiding and supporting Yin poses, but also the "why" of each asana, gaining a deeper understanding of the physical, emotional, and energetic benefits.
Connecting these concepts into your classes, you'll learn how to confidently sequence and theme yin yoga practices, as well as how to mindfully communicate and hold safe space. The training also incorporates other traditional tools and complementary practices, including pranayama (breathwork), meditation, yin-yang yoga, yoga nidra, restorative yoga, and myofascial release.
This course is open to new and experienced teachers, as well as dedicated yoga students who desire to deepen their yin practice. Offering this unique expression of yoga to your students will add diversity to your teaching, and help you (and your students) to find a little stillness in the stress of modern life.
